As in New York or Venice, the city of Barcelona will be staging its very own New Year’s Eve show, which will be performed for the first time between the fountain of Montjuïc and Reina Maria Cristina Avenue, close to the Paralelo, on 31 December.
La Fura dels Baus and Focus have been commissioned to organize the show "Ésser del Mil•lenni," together with the sound, lighting, fountains and fireworks. In the words of Carles Padrissa, artistic director of La Fura dels Baus: "The event combines participation, creativity and technology. It will include representations of Mediterranean culture and the broadcasting of suggestive images not only of Barcelona but also of other cities, as well as a firework display during the twelve strokes of the bells at midnight. Used in Barcelona in 2000 as a symbol of the birth of a new millennium, the "Ésser del Mil•lenni" has since then been displayed in the Millennium Park of Gava.
For the 2013 New Year’s Eve festivities, Nordeste is handling all the security arrangements, including access control, security guards and auxiliary staff, so as to ensure that the public get the New Year off to a safe start.
