Last January brought some interesting developments in the private security industry, such as the new Private Security Bill, which envisages empowering security guards to make arrests in public areas.

An issue that has raised much debate, it could have a considerable impact on the meeting and event industry since many events are held in public areas where offenses like thefts, the illegal sale of CDs and drinks, etc., are committed

It remains to be seen if any changes will be introduced in the bill and what duties security guards will be allowed to perform.

In January, more than 90% of the events in which Grupo Nordeste participated were held in public areas, such as the traditional New Year’s Eve festivities in Reina Maria Cristina and the Magic Fountain in Barcelona, followed by a number of Epiphany parades, featuring those of Barcelona City Council and three of the city’s districts: Castelldefels, Castellbisbal, and Cerdanyola del Vallès.

After these events, which involved a large number of staff and logistics, including a number of self-protection plans, Grupo Nordeste is now immersed in the job of improving staff management and reporting so as provide clients with a list of possible improvements for future events.

The Barcelona-based security company has also created an international department, which has started to operate thanks to a number of contracts with foreign companies.
