The Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) is a football tournament with six categories for young up-and-coming players from all over the world.
Evenia Olympic Resort will be one of the venues for the 15th edition of MIC, scheduled to take place from 1-5 April.
This is the sixth year in a row that the organizers will use the facilities of Evenia Olympic Resort’s Convention Centre as one of MIC’s venues. At 7pm on the 7 March, the convention centre’s auditorium was used for a radio broadcast organized by RAC1.
Two hundred teams from several countries – including for the first time teams representing Indonesia and the Dominican Republic – have registered for the tournament. During the five-day event, 596 matched will be played on 24 football pitches in 19 localities on the Costa Brava. Over 5,000 accredited participants will be involved and it is expected that over 200,000 spectators will watch the matches live.
One of the new features in this year’s edition of the tournament is the reintroduction of the girls’ category. There will be eight bantam and junior teams taking part, with matches being played in Santa Cristina d’Aro, Calonge and Castell de Platja d’Aro, and the final in Palamos.
It is important not to forget that the provincial government of Girona and MIC signed an agreement last February by which the Costa Brava will host the tournament until 2019.
Some of the famous players who have participated in MIC include Leo Messi, Gerard Pique, Cesc Fabregas, Phillippe Coutinho, Neymar, Marcelo, Juan Mata, Giovanni dos Santos, andJordi Alba.
