Evenia Hosts Animal Welfare Congress

The Olympic Congress Centre has been chosen as the venue for an animal welfare course, in the framework of the "Better Training for Safer Food" Commission initiative, currently being held from 18-21 June.

The industry has been evolving both at a medical and pharmaceutical level for some time now. Thanks to a number a studies and developments laws have been modified both nationally and internationally.

This workshop is the first of 14 training activities to be carried out in 2013 and 2104, revolving around animal welfare at farms, animal slaughter in abattoirs and disease control and animal welfare during transport, keyed to official vets of EU Member States.

During the event, representatives of the Food and Veterinary Office of the European Commission, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the national food and veterinary authorities will be invited to present initiatives related to animal welfare legislation. The course includes theoretical and practical sessions, with group activities geared to promoting discussions between the participants and interaction with the tutors, as well as practical exercises during visits to abattoirs.
