Spain will present to the EU a specific investment project for tourism to be financed by the Recovery Fund

Maroto wanted to send a message of peace of mind by ensuring that Spain is now recognised as a safe destination

In his speech this Thursday at the Council of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the CEOE held for the first time in a physical way since the beginning of the health crisis, the minister has advanced that this program will allow the development of projects tractors in the field of tourism and will be developed jointly with the autonomous communities, municipalities and social and economic agents.

In this sense, Minister Maroto has thanked "the joint work of social and business agents to address the crisis of the COVID-19, which shows that when consensus is reached, faster progress is achieved.

For the minister, this work of public-private coordination has also been evident between the Secretariat of State for Tourism, communities and economic and social agents of the sector through the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE) in the development of 22 protocols of security against COVID-19 that today are recognized internationally because they have ISO certification.

More than 21,000 million for the tourism sector

The head of Industry reviewed the Government's measures to support the tourism sector, such as the benefit for cessation of activity, the ICO guarantee lines, the Plan to Promote the Tourism Sector with more than 4,200 million euros, the plans for tourism sustainability in the destination or aid for digitalization amounting to 216 million euros. Among all the actions, the Government has put more than 21,000 million euros for the tourism sector.

The minister wanted to send a message of peace of mind by ensuring that Spain is now recognised as a safe destination, which will allow tourism activity to gradually recover as confidence in travel is restored and borders are gradually opened.

For her part, the President of the Council of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the CEOE, Marta Blanco, has highlighted that the tourism sector is experiencing "a critical situation in both the short and medium term". She also said that, in addition to the measures taken to date, it will be necessary to urgently expand coordination with the health authorities, which would require the creation of a public-private working group with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
