According to Javier Muñoz, president of the tourist consortium Travel Advisors Guild (TAG), founder of Radius, one of the world’s biggest travel agencies, the MICE Industry (Meetings, Incentives, Congresses and Events) will experience a 12-15% growth in 2008.

Javier Muñoz made this declaration during the consortium’s annual convention held on La Toja Island (Pontevedra, Galicia). In addition, he stated that, although conventional tourism is expected to remain stable, the event industry is currently growing at a fast rate, since many companies find it necessary to promote themselves through events.

The convention, in which the retail sector came under analysis, brought together representatives of travel agencies and their suppliers, including Iberia, British Airways, RENFE and Amadeus.

Galician Events
In 2006, Galicia hosted 1,000 events, which generated 43 million euros en revenues, of which 60% were congresses, 30% conventions and 10% business incentives.
