Last week, Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza reaffirmed her commitment to create an art gallery in the city with the loan of a collection of 19th and 20th century Spanish paintings, including works by Zuloaga, Sorolla and artists from Malaga, which will be housed in the Villalon Palace.

“I have a commitment with Malaga that I Intend to keep”
The Baroness and Mayor Francisco de la Torre signed an agreement on 20 March for the loan of the collection for the next 15 years.

Villalón Palace
The 16th century Villalon Palace, located in calle Compañia in Malaga’s historic centre, has been chosen to house the works of art. Restoration work on the building is already underway and should be completed in three years. Meanwhile, the collection will be exhibited at temporary venues in the city.

Negotiations with Seville
Seville is currently negotiating with the Baroness a loan of part of her extensive collection of Spanish painting to create a similar gallery in the city.
