Backed by 50 luxury brands, this initiative is geared to consolidating Marbella’s position as a top-end destination.

Fashion, jewellery, cars and cuisine – all synonymous of exclusivity, quality, excellence and luxury – will again form the core of Marbella Luxury Weekend, scheduled to be held from 30 May- 2 June. Now running into its third year, the event has already managed to consolidate its position as Marbella’s flagship initiative for promoting the town in Spain and abroad.

At the presentation of the event’s programme and participating firms, Angeles Muñoz, mayoress of Marbella, stated that although this initiative is "organized and promoted by the Town Council, through its tourism department, it also has the backing of the private sector with around 50 firms participating, sponsoring or collaborating in the event, lending their prestige to our project geared to positioning the town as a benchmark for luxury tourism."

During the press conference, which was also attended by Jose Luis Hernandez, local head of tourism, Jacobo Cestino, CEO of La Zagaleta, Juan Jose Gonzalez, president of CIT Marbella, and Jose Vidiella, vice-president of Puerto Banus, Muñoz emphasised that, this year, attendance figures are expected to be higher than at last year’s edition (50,000), and with only eight days to go, local hotels are almost fully booked for the duration of the event.

Hernandez put the accent on the participating and collaborating firms’ commitment to the town of Marbella, and then went on to reveal the most significant developments of this third edition. These include the presence of dancers from Paris’ El Lido Cabaret, who will present Maison Lejaby’s new collection, and the exhibition of some of the Guarnieri Group’s new cars, as well as the initiatives of firms such as Tod’s and Salvatore Ferragamo, which will both be launching products exclusively for Marbella Luxury Weekend.

Hernandez also highlighted the altruism of two-Michelin-star chef Dani Garcia, "who will be handling the catering for the opening party and whose enormous commitment and affinity to Marbella is self-evident."

Hernandez then went on to highlight the cultural and artistic dimension of this 3rd edition of the event with the presence of Faim Art, an independent Madrid-based art show characterized by its innovative and transgressive philosophy, which will be held for the first time outside the capital in Marbella.

Other new features include a hot air balloon ride and a boat trip for the brands’ VIP guests. Likewise, there will be a transfer service throughout the event, the opportunity to test drive Mercedes-Benz’s latest models, and a host of additional surprises keyed to the general public.

On Friday 31 May, coinciding with Marbella Luxury Weekend, La Zagaleta will hold the 2nd edition of the "Brands and Trends Forum", an initiative featuring top international executives from several industries. Jacobo Cestino, director of La Zagaleta, stressed the quality of the guest speakers, including the presidents of companies such as Coca-Cola Spain and RENFE, as well as the National Director of Google. He also announced the presence of Ana Garcia Siñeriz as the forum’s moderator.

Juan Jose Gonzalez reiterated the importance of the large number of brands participating in this 3rd edition of the event, and encouraged all local business owners to engage in this and other events whose common goal is to promote economic growth in Marbella and its image as a luxury tourist destination worldwide.

The opening party will take place on Thursday, 30 May, at 9:30pm, in the VIP Tower Tent, which will host the majority of events during the four-day MLW. The complete programme is available at: www.marbellaluxuryweekend.com
