Unique in Spain, the event will be held at the Malaga Tradeshow and Congress Centre (FYCMA) from 13-14 February 2013, with the support of all the country’s sponsors and the central, regional and local administrations.

Transfiere, the 2nd European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation, scheduled to be held from 13-14 February 2013 at the Malaga Tradeshow and Congress Centre (FYCMA), is supported by all the sponsors and the central, regional and local administrations. This is especially true of the Ministry of Finance and Competiveness, which regards the event as a suitable platform for unveiling the lines of the programme Horizonte 2020 and promoting Spanish research, innovation and competiveness in the European sphere.

Transfiere, showcasing Spanish innovation
University research groups belonging to the Public Research Organizations (OPIS) will be invited to participate in Transfiere 2013 on a preferential basis, with the aim of allowing them to present their innovative lines of research: showcasing beforehand what is being researched at Spanish universities and technological centres will serve to draw a map of innovation in Spain and will also help to attract demand represented by large national and international companies that need that research for their R&D&i projects. These companies will in turn attract SMEs and companies in their sector to the forum.

So as to encourage the participation of research groups showcasing their technology, Transfiere will rely on the collaboration of the Conference of rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and the Public Research Organizations (OPIS), who through the Research Results Transfer Office Network (REDROTI) will invite national research groups and evaluate the quality of current Spanish innovation. It is important to note that registration for the research groups of both organizations is free.

More international forum
Internationalization is an inherent aspect of innovation, since in today’s globalized society it is impossible to conceive localized innovation limited to a national context. For this reason, Portugal and Italy, member states of COTEC Europe along with Spain and countries sharing very similar innovation structures, as well as common problems and interests, will also be present at Transfiere 2013.

Likewise, internationalization will also be reflected in all the parallel activities to be programmed, including conferences on international programmes addressing success stories related to research, technology transfer and financing in other countries.

New features at Transfiere 2013
The next edition of the forum will include several new features related to the event’s promotion and dynamics. With the aim of facilitating communication between offer and demand, Transfiere will adapt the scientific jargon used by research groups to the more dynamic business jargon, as well as introducing a new "match-making" tool geared to simplifying the scheduling of pre-arranged meetings, thus ensuring a higher percentage of success.

As regards the event’s promotion, Transfiere will stage a road show visiting Spain’s different regions to encourage them to participate and comply with one of cornerstones of the Science, Technology and Innovation Act – the basis of the forum’s creation: territorial cooperation and the essential role of the autonomous communities and local administrations in the development of innovation.

Transfiere 2013 revolves around the country’s chief economic sectors – agro-food, energy, environment, health, infrastructure and transport, telecommunications, and tourism and services – reinforcing those with less representation in the last edition and those with an enormous development potential, such as the health, agro-food and tourism industries.

In addition, there will be two new sectors: industry and financial services so as include those companies that do not fit in with the aforementioned sectors. So, the financial sector will include banks and savings banks that have in place specific grant programmes for scientific research and investment in R&D&i projects.

Figures for the 1st edition
In its 1st edition, this multisectoral forum was attended by over 209 leading companies in the field of R&D&i, 36 Spanish universities, and 390 research groups, including more than 1,200 researchers, entrepreneurs and professionals, whose interaction generated 2,500 pre-arranged meetings held in 14 hours and real business opportunities for the participants (universities and companies).
