NH Hoteles Launches Ecomeetings

NH Hoteles has just launched Ecomeetings, a modern product geared to the MICE industry. This new concept for organizing events, congresses and conventions is based on a series of sustainable criteria, including the correct use of energy resources, as well as the use of fair trade products with a low environmental impact.

Starting in January 2010, it will be possible to organize Ecomeetings at nine of the chain’s properties, where all the processes involved will be analysed using environmental responsibility criteria, in which energy, light and water saving will play an important role.

Likewise, a number of processes will be implemented – upon the client’s request – with the aim of reducing the use of printed material as much as possible, for instance substituting digital dossiers for the traditional printed ones, or using digital badges and brochures.

In addition, fair trade products, such as stationary and, above all, produce used in catering, will come from suppliers guaranteeing the fair treatment of primary producers (coffee, chocolate and table linen producers, among others) as regards prices and exploitation mechanisms.

Lastly, the organizers of Ecomeetings will be offered the possibility of requesting a CO2 emissions compensation certificate. Emitted by the environmental certification company Carbon Clear, the certificate guarantees that the impact of an event – with regard to energy and water saving, and emissions – will be compensated by a charitable action in favour of the environment. At a minimal cost of one or two euros per attendee (depending on the distance travelled), NH Hoteles will donate revenues to the hydraulic plant project in the Colombian department of Antioquia.
