Museum of Flamenco Dancing in China

The Museum of Flamenco Dancing formed a part the delegation, organised by Turismo Andaluz Turismo Andaluz and Extenda, which was in China from 18-23 November 2007 to promote flamenco music.

The presentations made in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Beijing reflected the Chinese peoples’ enormous interest in flamenco as a cultural heritage of Andalusia and Spain and a factor that differentiates both the region and the country from other European destinations. In addition, a large number of agencies and tour operators attending the presentations stated their desire to add Andalusia to their Spanish destination portfolios (at present, only Madrid and Barcelona), and include the destination “Spain” in their new programmes.

Even so, the Chinese public’s knowledge of Spain in general and Andalusia in particular is still very limited. Hence the necessity of promoting the “Andalusia” brand name in the country. This is where flamenco, as well as bullfighting and Spanish cuisine, could prove to be decisive factors. All the companies forming the delegation coincided in pointing out that difficultly in obtaining visas was the main obstacle, since with easier procedures, the Chinese market could be very beneficial for Andalusian tourism.
