Museology for Chinese at 3rd Chinese Friendly Cities Conference

The 3rd edition of the Chinese Friendly Cities Conference will be held in Madrid from 16-17 March 2015.

The Chinese Ministry of Culture is assessing the implementation of educational and cultural communication systems in Western museums so as to help Chinese visitors enjoy and understand the host cultures of cultural tourism destinations. A low number of museums in China; little experience to fall back on when visiting Western museums; scant ability for deciphering the visual codes of contemporary art; a lack of knowledge of host cultures… all these shortcomings highlight the necessity for creating Chinese-friendly museums, such as the Cristina Hoyos Flamenco Dancing Museum in Seville or the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.

The creation of the Art Tourism Network, together with Yang Kai, founder of the online art platform 99art and voted the cultural industry’s "man of the year" by the newspaper China Culture, is keyed to increasing the professionalism and allure of Western museums for Chinese tourists.
