"The Threshold of the Desert" is a communication project raising awareness about women as engines of development and social change in rural areas of the Arab world.

The project, which will be presented in New York during the Committee on the Status of Women, will bring together top international experts working on women’s empowerment to discuss recent trends, challenges and opportunities during an inspiring and lively debate, hosted by UN Women, PES Women and French Embassy.

The panel of experts includes members of USAID, Vision Films, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, UN Women, OECD, and Women in Parliament.

The seminar, which will feature the participation of Najat Aziz, the star of the documentary, and Ramon Vila, director of the project, will enable an interactive and smooth debate between ambassadorial representatives, gender equality experts, the public, and the international media.

During the debate, key contributions will be made by Zita Gurmai, MEP, member of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and president of PES Women, who will summarise the final remarks and close the event.

"The Threshold of the Desert " has been selected at Cannes Film Festival and already presented at the European Parliament.
