The Girona Convention Bureau (GCB) has signed a tourism cooperation agreement with the Convention Bureau of Karlstad, a Swedish city with many things in common with Girona.

The aim of the agreement is to exchange ideas and compare the marketing plans and strategies of the two tourism destinations. Cristina Bube, director of Girona Convention Bureau (GCB), stated that "the two destinations can learn a lot from one another." Bube is convinced that it will be possible to create synergies and help the two cities "to generate a greater impact and visibility in the national and international meetings and event markets."

Girona and Karlstad, a city with a population of 82,096, are similar in size, both have a university, and share, according to the agreement, opportunities and challenges. And both cities are linked from March-October by Ryanair, which will be beneficial to forging closer links.

One of the Karlstad Convention Bureau’s main aims is to promote the Karlstad CCC, a large congress and cultural centre that opened last year. The convention bureau is a mixed enterprise, with 51% controlled by local business and the rest by local institutions.

The GCB is a non-profit organization belonging to the Girona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which since 1992 has been promoting the province’s MICE offering. It has 125 partner companies and organisms in the province of Girona, and the support and collaboration of the Girona Costa Brava Tourist Board.

The convention bureau is an impartial and free service, specializing in the province of Girona’s MICE products and services.
