The Spanish Association of Standardisation and Certification (AENOR) has awarded the Fuerte Hotel Group its Environmental Management Certificate for its commitment with environmental protection.

The Fuerte Hotel Group has been awarded AENOR’s Environmental Management Certificate, a distinction that was originally limited to beaches and coastal areas and, starting this year, has been extended to companies related to the tourist industry that have improved their track record in environmental protection.

Fuerte Hotels excels for its environmental management policies, since it has already introduced a management system complying with the international ISO 14001:2004 standard, based on continuous improvements, pollution prevention and enforcement of existing laws, at its hotels Fuerte Conil, Fuerte Costa Luz, Fuerte Grazalema, and Fuerte El Rompido.

At present, the group has several divisions, including its hotel division with six hotels in Spain: the four abovementioned establishments, in addition to El Fuerte and Fuerte Miramar Spa, both in Marbella. In the near future, the group will be opening a five-star hotel complex in Jamaica and, in 2010, the All Suites Hotel Fuerte La Herradura in Almuñecar. Likeswise, it has plans to expand by running and managing independent hotels.
