The aim of these CSR initiatives, envisaged in the agreement existing between Mijas Town Council and Bosques de España, has been to plant 5,000 trees in the municipality.

Signed in 2008, the current agreement, which is automatically renewed every year, established a partnership between the three parties so as to recuperate, reforest and conserve Mijas’ natural environment.

In addition to implementing private initiatives, Exploramas also designs and incorporates these activities in group incentives.

Along these lines, "we have already organized CSR activities geared to reforesting Mijas for seven international companies," said Manuel Araujo, Exploramas CEO, before adding that they are especially popular with the employees of multinationals related to the pharmaceutical and technology industries, among others.

"The CSR programmes that we have designed for these companies, in the framework of our ’Compromiso’ project, not only benefit the environmental sustainability of the municipality, but also reinforce Mijas’ position as a holiday destination."

The last CSR event, which was held at the end of April for a group of 45 employees of an international company, was focused on recuperating the natural surroundings of the River Fuengirola in the Entrerrios area, with the planting of around 100 autochthonous trees.

The general aim is to regenerate the river bank, which, at the same time, will also reduce the risk of flooding in the neighbouring residential areas.

By virtue of the agreement, Exploramas and the association Bosques de España not only organize activities but also take responsibility for watering the reforested areas, a task that they carry out every 15 days with their own resources.

"We are the ones who water the area," explained Araujo. "It’s a part of our commitment to environmental protection; our way of understanding responsibility." After each CSR programme, the company and the association monitor the area so as to make sure that environment has effectively recovered.

The choice of target areas falls to Mijas Town Council, as well as supplying the necessary equipment and saplings.

To date, Exploramas and the aforementioned environmental association have focused their activities on areas including El Esparragal, Osunillas, Valtocado, and Entrerríos.

With offices in Mijas and Barcelona, Exploramas designs, organizes and stages experiences for companies, including team-building, adventure and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.

The company’s "Compromiso" project is a CSR programme revolving around three core activities:

  • EducadaMente: environmental education (awareness programmes for schools).
  • Corporativamente: CSR initiatives incorporated in the activities and experiences that it organizes.
  • NaturalMente: initiatives that Exploramas implements with its own resources (reforesting, cleaning streams, protecting the natural surroundings, dissemination, etc.).
