Event Organisers Prefer Spain

According to the results of a recent study on event industry trends, Spain is the European destination preferred by event organisers, followed by France and Italy.

Contradictory results
Nevertheless, the results of the study are somewhat contradictory, since the number of events held in Spain in 2006 was nine less than in 2005, and the country fell from third to fifth in the world ranking with respect to the number of international events hosted. At present, USA and Germany occupy the first and second positions, respectively, for the third year running, followed by the United Kingdom and France.

On the other hand, 6,176 people, including 2,792 hosted buyers, who kept 98% of their 34,000 programmed appointments, attended the EIBTM 2006 (The Global Meetings and Incentives Exhibition), which was held in Barcelona last November. This goes to show that the Spanish event industry is not in crisis.

Continued growth
In 2006, 5,383 events were held, 523 more than on 2005, which according to the International Conference and Convention Association (ICCA) is clear indicator of the industry’s excellent health.
