For the past few years, the Swiss cycling team has chosen the Denia Marriott for staging its pre-season training camp.

The Denia Marriott Hotel has recently organized an encounter between the Swiss cycling team BMC – featuring Cadel Evans, winner of the Tour de France in 2011 – and a group of local youngsters belonging to the Javea Cycling Club, who had the opportunity to chat with their idols in an encounter that lived up to their expectations.

Making the most the BMC’s 2013 pre-season training camp, which for the third year running the Swiss team has staged at the Denia Marriott Hotel and the facilities of La Sella Golf, the hotel’s managerial staff arranged an encounter between BMC team members and the Javea Cycling Club, during which the youngster’s chatted for over half an hour with their idols.

After an introductory talk by Yvon Ledanois, the members of the famous Swiss team – currently one of the best ranked in Europe – signed caps and bottles for the youngsters belonging to the Javea Cycling Club, who made the most of the opportunity to ask these "battle-hardened" professionals – including the sprinter Adam Blythe, winner of the Binche-Tournai-Binche, the American Olympic team member Taylor Phinney, a Giro d’Italia stage winner, and Larry Warbasse, the great "American hope" – all kinds of questions.

After questions about the specs of a professional bike and how they started out in professional cycling, a group photo was taken before they all cycled down the road linking the Denia Marriott with Javia and back, thus bringing to an end a friendly encounter which BMC promised to repeat in the future, circumstances permitting.

The directors of BMC stressed that "this year, we have returned to the Denia Marriott because it satisfies all the needs of our team. We’ve been staging our camp at the hotel for several years now because everything is perfect. In addition to the special characteristics of the roads in the Marina Alta area, which adapt perfectly to the team’s pre-season training programme, other reasons include the climate, the locals… and the ham!"
