The Rural Development Group of the Sierra Morena of Cordova is currently participating in Andarural, an innovative project aimed at introducing a new kind of country tourism based on the georeferencing tourist trails, services and attractions in Andalusia.

Local action groups
This project, which was presented at this year’s edition of FITUR and in which 27 rural areas are currently participating, consists in the installation of beacons with Bluetooth technology, which then transmit information about trails, heritage, cultural and tourist attractions, and services (from accommodation and restaurants to outdoor tourism agencies and cash dispensers) to mobile telephones, GPS navigators and other mobile devices.

The data stored in a geographic information system (GIS), which captures, stores, analyses and manages data and associated attributes which are spatially referenced to the earth, are managed, co-ordinated and administered by the technicians belonging to each local work group participating in the initiative. In this way, the project’s website – www.andarural allows visitors to embark on a virtual tour of Andalusia.

Comfortable planning
The system allows users to collect all the necessary information to plan their trip, including maps and photos, as well as advice and recommendations posted on the Andarural website by other travellers.

4th Country Tourism Awards
Andarural received the Best Country Development Initiative Prize awarded by the magazine Malaga Rural and the Malaga Association of Country Tourism (Turima) during the 4th Country Tourism Award ceremony held yesterday.
