Burgos Convention Bureau and Business Tourism at Burgos University

Students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Business Studies of Burgos University learnt about the importance and situation of the business tourism industry.

From 13-14 May, the Burgos Convention Bureau, in collaboration with Burgos University, organized a business tourism seminar in the Assembly Room of the university’s Faculty of Economic Sciences and Business Studies, aware of the importance of the industry’s regeneration and the need for specific training.

Fernando Gomez Aguado, counsellor for culture and tourism of Burgos City Council, welcomed the students before offering them a practical explication of the different tools used in promoting tourism, highlighting the success of public-private initiatives in this respect. Likewise, he reminded them about the impact that business tourism has on Burgos and the profits it generates for all of the companies linked to the industry.

According to Fernando Gomez, the main aim of the seminar is to motivate the students at the beginning of their professional career, offering them the opportunity to meet with outstanding professionals to discuss the industry, profit from their knowledge and experiences, and sound them out about potential job opportunities.

The event featured the participation of a number of chief players in the national MICE industry, including Luis Gandiaga (president of OPC Cantabria, executive member of OPC España and secretary-general of AEVEA) and Manuel Lara (MICE manager at Sercotel Hoteles).

For Javier Peña Martinez, director of the Burgos Convention Bureau, the aim of these seminars with the participation of professionals and students is to allow the latter to understand the current situation of the business tourism industry in a more tangible fashion. Motivation and sharing are both important.
