Four hundred small businesses related to the tourist industry have been able to modernise their facilities thanks to 12.4 million euros in subsidies provided by the regional government’s Department of Tourism. On the other hand, the region’s SMEs have received 1.7 million euros to carry out 59 projects aimed at improving facilities and business promotion.

Hotels and country accommodation
Hotels, country accommodation and restaurants are the businesses that have benefited most from these subsidies. Huelva, with 39 projects, is the province that has received most money, followed by Granada (33 projects), Malaga (59), Seville (51), Cadiz (59), Jaen (92), Almeria (29), and Cordova (35).

New technologies
Besides modernising existing facilities, the adoption of new technologies and management systems is also envisaged. Likewise, the idea behind these subsidies is to help hotels, country accommodation and camping sites to increase their category and improve access for the handicapped, among other things.

Objectives for 2007
Restaurants and country eateries will be able to apply for financial help in 2007 for modernising existing facilities. Likewise, travel agents’ will also be eligible for subsidies for adopting new technology.
