Spain welcomes children at weddings

It is well known that Spain is one of the most family orientated countries in Europe and for this reason children are welcomed at weddings. But how do the adults enjoy a stress free wedding when they have their children with them? Read our top tips!

How to keep children happy at weddings

It is obvious that a happy child means happy adults!

Keep the child entertained, well fed and give them somewhere safe to relax, and you too will be able to make the most of every moment of the wedding celebrations.

Children of different ages need to be considered.

  • New mothers need a private nursing area to be able to feed their baby
  • Young children need a quiet sleeping area

Top tip: consider renting a bedroom as a designated quiet space for the youngest children at your wedding and employ a babysitter for the period from the food to mid-evening to give parents a chance to eat in peace and have a dance.

  • Teenagers of different musical tastes love silent discos where each person wears a headset and dances to their own favourite songs – and adults love the fact that it is silent!
  • A professional children’s entertainer is perfect to include a range of ages of children with activities such as dedicated play zones, face painting and crafts.

Children at beach weddings in Spain

Beach weddings in full sun can be too hot for many children in Spain. The sand can burn little feet, children forget to keep hydrated or reapply sun protection cream.

Shade is the key to children enjoying a beach wedding in Spain.

  • A tipi or wigwam tent can make a fun place for children to hang out at a wedding especially if there are lots of cushions inside for taking a nap
  • Make sure there is a good supply of colouring books, pens and puzzles to keep children entertained quietly
  • A bubble station with soapy water and lots of different sizes and shapes of wands keeps all ages happy – adults too!
  • Supply a paddling pool and towels, buckets and spades to make sand castles, shells and pretty stones to decorate them …and sun protection cream in different colours to make using it as fun as possible.

Feeding children at weddings

Children can be fussy eaters so don’t include them in a formal sit down meal, ask your caterer to organise food stations where children can help themselves – this will save you money on wasted food too!

  • Water station with flavoured water and paper straws
  • Fruit station with different brightly coloured fruits displayed on ice
  • A dry station with breads, breadsticks, crackers and crisps in different shapes and sizes
  • Finger food station with cooked sausages, cheese and pineapples on sticks, cold meats and cheeses
  • Donut station with different dips such as chocolate, jam and coloured sugar toppings

Top tip: don’t worry too much about plates! Children love using their fingers to eat food and walking around holding their food. Do make sure you have lots of bins for rubbish and wet wipes for cleaning sticky hands

You might discover that the children are having so much fun at your wedding that the adults want to join them too!!!
