Turismo Costa del Sol, together with the tourism delegations of Marbella, Málaga and Ronda, have organised an inspection trip to show those responsible for events of the Ovation Global DMC group the potential of the destination in terms of meetings and congresses.

This action comes from the event Spain DMC's (Destination Management Company), which was held in Marbella last March. The association includes the best firms in the sector in Spain; and those responsible for the Ovation office in Barcelona decided to make an inspection visit to find out the destination, because they had already received several requests from their customers interested in knowing the province of Malaga.

Ovation Global DMC

The representatives of Ovation Global DMC have also taken advantage of this trip to inspect several spaces with which they have already closed some events for autumn 2019 and spring 2020. One of the objectives of this trip has been that the professionals of the group participating in it can know the changes and developments that is experiencing Malaga, Marbella and the Costa del Sol, in its transit to offer travelers a destination where quality prevails thanks to a tourist offer in constant evolution to become a destination associated with quality, sustainability, luxury and open 365 days a year. The participants in this trip are witnessing the full range of products that differentiate the destination from its competitors, and that has led the Costa del Sol to achieve a position of leadership in the global tourism industry.

MICE Segment

The Costa del Sol is making a strong commitment to the MICE segment, one of the most important of its tourist offer. And is that a report by Tourism Costa del Sol places this destination among the top five in the national scene. Specifically, it occupies 152nd place in the number of meeting tourism destinations worldwide; 82nd place in Europe; and 5th place in Spain; after Barcelona; Madrid; Valencia and Seville.

Thus, on the Costa del Sol there are 144 hotels that have facilities for this type of event, 555 rooms, with the possibility of accommodating 67,000 people in theater capacity. The 144 hotel establishments with meeting and event infrastructures represent 43% of the province's overall 3.4 and 5-star offer. The study carried out by Turismo Costa del Sol analyses, in addition to the congress offer of the key future destinations in order to be more competitive, the most interesting markets for the destination.

Main emitters

According to the report, the future of meeting tourism on the Costa del Sol has as its main emitters the national market; the United Kingdom and Germany. They are followed by France, Scandinavia, the United States and Canada. Other important markets for the meetings and events segment on the Costa del Sol are Benelux and China/Korea. In addition, the report highlights that the sectors to which the promotional efforts of the Costa del Sol destination should be directed are mainly the medical/sanitary sector; the pharmaceutical sector and the commerce and distribution sector; followed by the automobile and IT/technology sector; the cultural sector; the University; the logistics activity and the cosmetics sector.

As for the ownership of the organizing entity, it is obtained that on average about seven out of every ten events held on the Costa del Sol are organized by private or corporate entities. From the analysis of the origin of tourists from meetings according to the Autonomous Community of origin, it should be pointed out that, as could be predicted, the number of participants shows that both the Community of Madrid and Catalonia are, by far, the ones that contribute the most to the meetings organised. They are followed by participants from Castilla La Mancha, Andalusia and Valencia.
