Programa Miro

Three cities are twinned through the Miro Programme to celebrate a marathon of ideas to respond to the challenges of mass tourism.

Mediterranean Europe is the place where the number of international tourists has increased the most. An indisputable reality whose problems have moved to the forefront of the political agenda. Social pressure is increasing and, to a large extent, Mallorca and Barcelona have led much of the debate and reflection - and the problem. In this context, the 'Miro in Cube' competition will serve as a technological epicentre for the development and creation of innovative solutions that promote responsible and respectful tourism management.

Gentrification, pollution, security, coexistence, mobility... the development of tourism will be sustainable or it will not be. A key issue in a country where tourism is more than just a powerful industry. A door to economic growth, social, political and cultural development of a society, but a challenge where innovation becomes the best tool to find solutions that can respond to the challenges arising from the management of not always kind tourist flows.

Through the Miro Programme, the University of Perpignan has woven an invisible network between this city, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca to give shape to a competition that will unite these three regions for four days. At the heart of the 'creative' agenda, the ability to develop innovative solutions that tackle mass tourism (saturation, massification, deterioration of heritage ...) anywhere in the world through a space of work and innovation.

Other tourism is possible

Is it possible to apply new formulas that allow a sustainable, responsible and respectful growth of tourism? Yes, and the second edition of the Miro in Cube competition, which will take place on 20, 21 and 22 February from three different venues, is one of the perfect frameworks for this. A more ambitious and open edition that brings the debate to the international arena with the collaboration of the University of Perpignan and the incubators of the Balearic Islands and Barcelona.

In total there will be 56 hours of work. A real marathon of ideas will be synchronized and connected in three territories: Barcelona (Canòdrom), Palma (ParcBit) and Perpignan (UPVD IN CUBE). Miro in Cube' will be a triple hackaton of four days (one in each city), of which three will be for teamwork with workshops and guidance experts in various fields. On the fourth day there will be a single final among the nine winning projects (three per city) where a special prize for innovation will be awarded.

An international final that will take place in the 4YFN (Four Years From Now) forum, the event that brings together start-ups and investors during the celebration of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It will be the fourth day of the competition (25 February) when the final between the nine winning projects will be held in the three cities. Three local projects will be awarded during the competition and a special prize of 5,000 euros will be awarded for innovation. The winning project will be awarded an incubation with accompaniment and 10,000 euros. The economic amounts are in concept of services to develop the start-ups and turn them into a successful reality.

56 hours to create a start-up

Tourism is a capital pillar for the development of regions such as Barcelona or Palma and hackaton is a practical response that wants to advance through the challenges posed by its exponential growth with a proposal of collaborative, open and innovative work. In fact, one of the most valuable elements will be the projection of the idea in question throughout the hackaton. The more travel and margin for transformation and development has an idea, the better for the team that defends it.

In their journey, participants will not be alone, although the clock will run against them. They will have mentors, counselors and experts in different areas who will accompany them and help shape and polish their ideas. They will do so through an application specially developed for the competition with which they will be able to consult competitions, teams, social networks, set appointments with counselors, make videoconferences, among others, before, during and after the event.
