Madrid, 29 Nov (EFE) - The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) stressed that the designation of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as the venue for the return leg of the Copa Libertadores between Rivel Plate and Boca Juniors is backed by Spain's experience in organising major events.
The Federation underlined the confidence that FIFA, UEFA and CONMEBOL have placed in Spanish football, which on Thursday determined that the Real Madrid stadium will host the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final on Sunday 9 December at 20:30 local time (19:30 GMT).
"The Real Federación de Fútbol de España (RFEF) and the Spanish fans will host the final of the Conmebol Libertadores in Madrid, which will take place in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on 9 December at 20:30," the Federation said in a statement.
"Spain will put all its experience in events of this magnitude at the service of the final of the most prestigious club tournament in America," says the RFEF.
"This exceptional decision, taken in the face of urgent and complicated circumstances that occurred in the planned and subsequently suspended match between Club Atlético River Plate and Club Atlético Boca Juniors, aims to ensure this prestigious and important match in a neutral environment.
Federation President Luis Rubiales believes that the decision endorsed by FIFA, UEFA and CONMEBOL shows confidence in the organisational power of Spanish football.
"Without a doubt, we are prepared. It is great news that we have received the confidence to host this historic match and we will make every effort in our power to offer both CONMEBOL and a sister country like Argentina optimal conditions for them to enjoy one of the best games in the world, says the president of the RFEF.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation states that "Spain will put all its experience in events of this magnitude at the service of the final of the most prestigious club tournament in America. The match will be held in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, thanks to the active collaboration of Real Madrid, which has offered all the facilities for the development of the final," the statement concludes.
