TUI Event Management, TUI Travel Group’s division present in 33 countries specializing in destination management services keyed to associations and corporations, has transferred its headquarters from Hannover (Germany) to Barcelona (Spain) with the aim of initiating a new phase of internationalization.

After being established in Hannover in 2006 to co-ordinate strategies of the TUI Group’s subsidiaries specializing in destination management for MICE clients, the company has now implemented a new strategic plan whose chief aim is to consolidate its position in the MICE industry as an organization capable of providing DMC, PCO, marketing, production and communication services anywhere in the world.

The first decision made in the framework of this new strategy has been to establish the headquarters of TUI Event Management in Barcelona, thanks to the good offices of TUI Spain. The new headquarters will be responsible for designing the new global strategy and providing sales, marketing and business development support to the 33 companies employing more than 300 people comprising this DMC network.

Barcelona has been chosen for several reasons: the effort made by TUI Spain to obtain the headquarters; the experience of Ultramar Express Event Management, TUI Spain’s MICE division, based in Barcelona; the professionalism of Ultramar Express Event Management’s team, who will contribute with their broad experience to the sales and marketing strategies of TUI Event Management; the importance of the Spanish market for TUI Event Management, which represents an important percentage of its turnover; and the city of Barcelona, which over the last few years has consolidated its position as one of the most popular business tourism destinations in the world.

The proximity of Palma de Mallorca, where the headquarters of TUI Spain and TUI Travel’s DMC division are located, has also influenced the group’s decision.

Delfí Torns, director of TUI Event Management, says: “We have important plans for growth, developing new products and making the most of the group’s resources.” Likewise, Beate Einhäuser, director of business development adds: “TUI Event Management is now entering into a new phase. We are going to reinforce our client relations offering global solutions the worldover.”
