On 11 August 2008, the platform medeben.es was launched in Spain. This new free, non-profit service is a Wiki that allows users (companies and professionals) to post information about defaulters and delinquent debtors and consult information posted by others with the aim of reducing risks when conducting sales transactions on credit or instalments.

This initiative launched by the Spanish Association for the Prevention of Defaults and Delinquent Accounts (AEPIM) provides users – companies and freelancers – with two main services: a consultancy service that allows registered users to consult a list of debtors containing companies and freelancers with unsettled or bad debts; and a “credit alert” service allowing those companies conducting sales transactions on credit to include their clients with the aim of receiving alerts, automatically warning them of any problem; that is, the failure to pay other creditors.

The service is free for registered users. The AEPIM is funded by contributions from its members and collaborating companies, and the revenues from Google Adsense campaigns.
