With the recent opening of the Bagues Hotel, Derby Hotels Collection and Bagues-Masriera Jewellers have recuperated a palace located in the heart of Las Ramblas for the city of Barcelona.
Housed in Bagues-Masriera's jewellery-workshop, the Bagues Hotel is the sparkling result of a joint initiative carried out by Bagues-Masriera Jewellers and Derby Hotels Collection, who decided to create a very special bijou hotel, combining the world of culture and the arts, as an acknowledgement of Bagues-Masriera Jewellers' creative genius.
The concept behind the Bagues, a bijou hotel and monument to Bagues-Masriera as a luxury brand, did not exist in Spain until now. The property has only 31 exquisite guest rooms, conceptualized, designed and decorated as befitting the palace housing them.
Personally supervised by Jordi Clos, this project is true to the philosophy of Derby Hotels Collection: the new Bagues is much more than a hotel. On this occasion, Clos has partnered with Bagues-Masriera Jewellers, the greatest exponent of luxury Catalonian jewellery. Thanks to this partnership, they have managed to recuperate one of the city's most beautiful heritage buildings, a palace designed in 1859 by the architect Josep Fontsere i Domenech, which until only recently housed part of the workshops and one of the historic shops of Bagues-Masriera Jewellers.
In addition to the guest rooms, the hotel has a restaurant-brasserie, captained by the chef George Pierre, offering a menu of scrupulously chosen dishes, prepared with the best produce available at the Boqueria Market. The property also has a peaceful, welcoming and very private 36sqm function room, seating up to 30 people, with its own kitchen and meeting equipment (projector, screen, computers, PR system, etc.). Lastly, the facilities include a terrace-solarium with a swimming pool and, opening shortly, a spa area.
The hotel's museum-function room houses a collection of jewellery which has been exhibited at some of the world's most important museums, such as New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, Madrid's Decorative Art Museum, and Barcelona's MNAC. In line with the philosophy of Derby Hotels Collection and the chain's devotion to art, pieces from the Bagues-Masriera jewellery collection – representing the history and creativeness of the company – are exhibited in each one of the guest rooms.
