On 3 November, the Canaries Congress Centre - Alfredo Kraus Auditorium opened a new function room, designed by the prestigious Catalonian architect Oscar Tusquets, whose aim is to reinforce the position of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the national and international meetings and event markets.

The main characteristic of this modern, triangular function room – complementing the 14 existing function rooms – is its versatility, since it is equipped with a novel system, unique in the world, allowing the seats to be automatically stored below the floor in three minutes, thus creating a diaphanous venue fully adaptable to other meeting and event formats. This system transforms it into a multipurpose venue, with the possibility of equipping each one of the seats in auditorium format with a spacious desk.

With a usable area of 872sqm and 610 seats, the new function room will not only be used for workshops, seminars, symposia, presentations and congresses, but also for exhibitions and congresses. In addition to a number of breakout rooms, it has its own 491sqm lobby and outside entrance, thus allowing it to be used independently from the rest of the building.

Built on top of the centre’s old parking lot, this new venue will allow the centre to host congresses with over 3,500 delegates, since it now has an overall capacity of 4,693 attendees and its exhibition area has been increased from 3,500-4,700sqm, thus allowing for a greater number of stands, as well as a larger catering area, adapting the centre to the current demands of the meetings and event industry.
