2008 Edition of Flamenco Programme Launched in Cadiz

The 2008 edition of the flamenco music programme Las Rutas Flamencas was launched at La Perla de Cadiz flamenco club on 24 March, with the Ruta de los Cantes Básicos. This year, the cultural programme will include two new itineraries: the Ruta del Fandango de Huelva and the Ruta Minera covering the provinces of Jaen and Almeria.

Organised by the Andalusian Agency for the Dissemination of Flamenco, in collaboration with Turismo Andaluz and the Andalusian Confederation of Flamenco Clubs, the programme comprises seven itineraries whose objective is to disseminate all the different styles of flamenco music and promote the most outstanding flamenco artistes through a series of conferences and performances given throughout Andalusia.

The first itinerary, the Ruta de los Cantes Básicos, which got underway at La Perla de Cadiz flamenco club on 24 March, included conferences and performances in Utrera, Jerez de la Frontera, Lebrija and El Puerto de Santa Maria from 25-28.

One of the new features of this year’s programme, La Ruta Minera, scheduled for 21-25 April, will include conferences and performances in Andujar and Linares, both in the province of Jaen, as well as Huercal de Almeria and the city of Almeria.

The Ruta del Fandango de Huelva, another of this year’s new features programmed for 26-30 May, will pass through Moguer, Almonte, Punta Umbria, Huelva and Isla Cristina from 26-30 May.

From 23-27 June, the Ruta de la Creación o las Huellas de Chacón, will include conferences and performances in Rincon de la Victoria and Velez-Malaga, both in the province of Malaga, as well as the City of Granada, Illora and Montefrio.

The fifth itinerary, the Ruta de los Cantes Abandolaos o de Cayetano Muriel, will take place in the province of Cordova, with conferences and performances in Montilla, Fuente Palmera, the City of Cordova, Lucena and Priego de Cordoba.

The Ruta de la Bajañí will have two itineraries this year. The first, scheduled for 20-24 October, will include Arriate and Ronda in the province of Malaga, Grazalema and El Gastor in Cadiz, and Moron de la Frontera in Seville; and the second programmed for 17-21 November, Algeciras, Conil de la Frontera and Sanlucar de Barrameda, in Cadiz, and Alcala de Guadaira and Los Palacios, in Seville.

Lastly, from 8-12 December, the Ruta de las Grandes Figuras will include performances in Seville, El Viso del Alcor and Marchena, as well as Alahurin de laTorre (Malaga) and the City of Malaga.
