The centre managed to save €19,328 on its energy bill in 2011, spending 4.5% less than in 2010.

The Malaga Tradeshow and Congress Centre (FYCMA) has managed to reduce its gas consumption by 20% and its power consumption by 6% during 2011, implementing a series of environmentally-friendly measures geared to improving energy efficiency.

As to figures, the centre consumed 1,120MWh of natural gas, representing cost savings of €10,500. Along these lines, it is important to highlight the cost savings achieved at moments of low activity as regards tradeshows and congresses.

With regard to energy, a total of 3,220 MWh was consumed, representing a drop of 6% with respect to 2010, of which 26% was due to lower consumption in the restaurant area and the rented areas, while 74% was saved in the rest of the centre’s facilities. Likewise, the average energy consumption during the days when no events were held dropped by 14%.

Thanks to the energy-saving initiatives implemented by FYCMA, total energy consumption dropped by 4%. Specifically, cost savings in 2010 totalled €19,328 (4.5% more than the year before). However, it is important to note that the real cost savings were greater, since energy prices increased by 16% in 2011.

Measures taken by FYCMA
In line with its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, FYCMA continues to adopt measures that ensure the efficient maintenance and management of its facilities and activities. During 2010 and 2011, initiatives included the installation of a control system and a lighting management system in the halls, substituting 110 halogen and the fluorescent lights with LEDs, and turning all equipment off when facilities are not in use, among others.

In addition, the centre has a 100kW PV energy plant, thus reducing consumption and increasing its energy efficiency. Likewise, a number of measures have been adopted in 2012 geared to improving these excellent results as regards quality and sustainability.

FYCMA’s objectives include the promotion and dissemination of environmental management and rational energy consumption among other collectives, such as clients, suppliers, society as a whole, and public administrations; as well as disseminating it energy and environmental policies among all of its staff and the general public so as to involve them in all the activities organized by the centre.
