Galicia is a mixture of old and new, and the region's capital, the medieval city and World Heritage Site of Santiago de Compostela, is a fine example of this synthesis. Only 40 minutes by car from Santiago de Compostela, the coastal city of Corunna, whose peninsula juts out into the Atlantic at the mouth of the Betanzos estuary, has over 2,000 years of history.
