More than 400 people are expected to attend the event in which international experts will discuss the importance of developing specific tools for increasing information about tourist destinations and, therefore, for improving their management.
The World Tourist Organization (OMT) and the Andalusian regional government’s department of tourism, commerce and sports have chosen Malaga as the venue for the international tourism conference Knowledge as a Value Added of Tourist Destinations, a technical event scheduled to be held from 29-31 October in which over 400 tourist industry professionals and experts are expected to participate.
The priority of the first edition of this event is to discuss the need for implementing specific analytic tools in each territory and applying bespoke methodologies geared to improving knowledge, as well as achieving an adequate planning for different tourist destinations.
Likewise, the organizers hope that the event will lay the foundation for the future creation of a network of national and international experts in tourism.
Plenary sessions and keynotes will revolve around four main topics: measuring the flows of visitors; tourism and territory, in which the use of new instruments related to the development of sustainable tourism will be addressed; measurement and analysis of tourism economic contributions, and tourism destination management.
The events keynote speakers will include experts from public and private institutions related to tourism. Doug Frechtling and Calvin Jones, lecturers at the George Washington University and Cardiff University, respectively, Antonio Massieu, head of the UNWTO’s statistics and economic measurements of tourism, and Frederic Pierret the organization’s assessor in France, are just some of speakers who will be attending the event.
Likewise, keynotes will be given by professionals working for institutions such as Denmark’s Centre for Regional and Tourism Research and Abu Dhabi’s Tourist Office, in addition to agencies related to statistic research and a variety of tourist industry companies.
