Font size A-A+Malaga’s Trade Show and Congress Centre will be hosting the EPC Technology Forum next Thursday, 3 April. Nearly 200 national and international trade professionals and experts in EPC/RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) – a technology which will not only revolutionise corporate logistics, but in the future will also transform sales outlets worldwide – are expected to attend the event.
The Electronic Product Code (EPC), which is a step up from barcode technology, allows for the identification of all types of products via RF tags that can be read at a distance, that is, via radio frequency waves.
Key players in R+D of this revolutionary technology will be attending the forum at Malaga’s congress centre to discover the latest developments in EPC/RFID and on-going projects and applications in the field.
Organised by GS1 Spain in collaboration with Malaga University, the Andalusian Technological Park, AT4 Wireless, and Promalaga, and with the support of Malaga City Council and the Andalusian Regional Government, the event will be held next Thursday, 3 April 2008.
Father of EPS in Malaga The EPC Technology Forum will have an exceptional keynote speaker line-up, including Sanjay Sarma, lecturer at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who is regarded as the father of the Electronic Product Code and one of the world’s foremost experts.
Furthermore, the forum’s participants will be able to get to know firsthand the projects of Leche Pascual and Correos, two Spanish companies behind Europe’s most pioneering initiatives in the application of EPC/RFID technology. Leche Pasual uses it for controlling product dispatch, while Correos does so to monitor the delivery quality of its land mail service.
Parallel programme The EPC Technology Forum is one of several events revolving around EPC/RFID to be held in Malaga during the first week of April. Parallel to the forum, the Andalusian Technological Park will be hosting the annual meeting of Auto-ID Labs, an event presided by MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology) with the participation of representatives of Cambridge, Adelaida, Keio, Fudan, Tokio, and St Gallen, six of the most prestigious universities in the world with cutting-edge research programmes focused on EPC/RFID.
Likewise, representatives of the Bridge project – an initiative financed by the EC whose aim is to develop and introduce EPC/RFID technology in Europe through pilot schemes and demonstration and training tools – will be meeting from 3-4 April.
