This year’s edition will include a catwalk featuring Moroccan fashion and an exhibition of 18th and 19th century ceramics from the Northern Rif, courtesy of several museums and private collectors.
The 4th edition of Expo Hispa-Moroc, to be held at Malaga’s Trade Fair and Congress Centre from 5-9 December, is an event geared to forging cultural and business links between Malaga and North Africa. With over 100 exhibitors from Casablanca, Rabat, Agadir, Nador, Fez, Tetuan, Tangier, Essaouira and Sale, among other localities, over 8,000m2 of exhibition space in Pavilion 1 will be given over to the event.
In an improvised medina, occupying the centre of the congress centre, visitors will be able to browse a large variety of decorative objects in leather, forged iron and cloth, the majority of which being handcrafted. Furthermore, this year’s edition of the event will feature a Moroccan fashion show, displaying the country’s typical atire.
Throughout the five days of the event, 250m2 of exhibition space will be dedicated to 150 ceramic objects from the Rif, the mountainous region in Northern Morocco located between the towns of Nador and Tetuan. The exhibits, including household utensils, plates, crockery, etc., have been loaned from several of the region’s museums and private collections.
Additional activities will include belly dancing and henna workshops where visitors can learn about both of these arts and their traditions, history and techniques. There will also be workshops and additional activities for children. For the duration of the fair, the group “Al Caravan” will provide musical entertainment in the event enclosure, playing and dancing to the sound of ancestral Moroccan percussion music.
Consolidating Morocco as a holiday destination and boosting its commercial growth are two of the country’s chief priorities. Hence, the objective of the exhibitors attending the event is to showcase their products, establishing new marketing and growth channels for the country’s emerging sectors.
Parallel to Expo Hispa-Maroc, the trade show and congress centre will be hosting “El Rastrillo” (flee market), a fund-raising venture organised by the NGO Nuevo Futuro, which as in previous years will donate proceeds to the care of abandoned children.
