The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will be coming to Spain for the first time through its EmTech Conference, organized by Technology Review Spain, the Spanish edition of the world’s oldest technology journal. Scheduled to be held in Malaga from 26-27 October 2011, EmTech (Emerging Technologies) Spain will bring together a number of international experts who will analyze the main emerging technologies and how these will change the world.
Together with Boston, Canton and Bangalore, Malaga will be joining the exclusive club of pioneering cities that have hosted an edition of this event, regarded as a benchmark for events addressing emerging technologies. During two days, business leaders, top investors, outstanding entrepreneurs, and relevant researchers, technologists and scholars will share and discuss their knowledge as regards the latest trends in intelligent cities, bio- and nanotechnology, robotics, the Internet, videogames and media.
During 48 hours, Malaga will be the centre of international technological debate, which, thanks to MIT and TR Spain, will consolidate its aim of becoming a European centre of R&D&I. Over the past few years, the city has made great strides towards its objective to become a benchmark for technology and innovation, above all through the Malaga Valley initiative. For this reason, Technology Review Spain has chosen the city to host the first edition of EmTech Spain, which will also include the live broadcasting of the 11th Biannual Meeting of the Malaga Valley Club, with the attendance of the chairmen of the 100 or so most important companies in Spain.
Opinno, the official publishers of the Spanish and Portuguese editions of Technology Review, is behind the event which will include well-known keynote speakers: Ryan Chin, manager of the MIT Media Lab’s Smart Cities Group; Philip Tan, head of MIT’s videogame research group; Othman Laraki, director of research and geolocation at Twitter; and Jason Pontin, editor in chief of Technology Review. In addition, in the framework of EmTech Spain, MIT’s Technology Review will give its prestigious TR35 awards – created in 1999 by the American edition of the journal, which has discovered talent to the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, and Sergey Brin, founder of Google – to 10 Spanish innovators under 35 years of age.
