On 17 June, the Malaga’s Carmen Thyssen Museum and the Association of Hoteliers of the Costa del Sol (AEHCOS) signed a mutual collaboration agreement with the aim of promoting the city as a cultural tourism destination. Thanks to this agreement, the museum will put a number of entrance tickets at the disposal of its member hotels for their guests.
Representatives of both parties – including Jose Carlos Escribano, president of AEHCOS, and Javier Ferrer, director of the Palacio de Villalon Foundation responsible for managing the museum – were present during the signing of the agreement, which took place at the museum.
As stated by the signatories, this agreement "is historic" since it is the first to be signed between the association and a museum. In addition, it implies a great boost to the promotion of cultural tourism in Malaga and an important step forward in relations between the association and the city’s public institutions.
Carmen Thyssen Museum Opened on 24 March 2011, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, which houses the collection of Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, occupies the 16th century Palace of Villalon, located in calle Compañía, in Malaga’s historic centre. The museum’s permanent collection comprises 230 works covering 19th century Spanish art, with the accent of Andalusian painting, in a brilliant and coherent fashion. The museum occupies an area of 7,147sqm, of which 5,185 are used for exhibition purposes.
The museum is open to the public from 10am-8pm, Tuesdays to Thursdays, from 10am-9pm, Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10am-8pm on Sundays.
AEHCOS currently has 365 associated hotels, with over 88,000 rooms, representing 85% of the province of Malaga’s hotel capacity.
Likewise, it has 70 partners related to the tourism industry, which support the associated hotels under special conditions, thus helping the association to constantly improve the Costa del Sol as a tourist destination.
