Malaga’s Congress and Trade Fair Centre to Host the Spanish Congress Centre Association’s 5th Congress Top representatives of the Spanish Association of Congress Centres, including Jose Salinas, the association’s president, will meet in the capital of the Costa del Sol from 5-6 July to analyse the current situation of the congress industry, market trends and congress centre management.

From 5-6 July, Malaga’s Trade Fair and Congress Centre will be hosting the 5th Congress of the Spanish Association of Congress Centres (APCE), during which the distinctive features, trends and latest developments in the national congress industry will be analysed, along with competition in the business tourism sector.

According to the President of the APCE Jose Salinas, in the last few years business has been brisk for the 32 congress centres belonging to the association. He also drew attention to their adaptability to all kinds of events, be they international congresses or large-scale cultural events, and to the latest technology, while lauding their architectural design. In fact, it is because of these factors that they now occupy a leading position in the national and international congress markets, in comparison with hotels, convention centres and other event venues.

This growth consolidates the competitiveness of Spanish destinations, which is excellent news for the industry. In addition, as is the case of Malaga, the building of congress centres in urban areas not only boosts tourist development but also has a positive impact on transport connexions, amenities and quality at all levels.

Environmental policies and measures to be adopted, energy saving systems, waste water treatment for its reuse, and new trends in event organisation are just some of the matters that will be discussed during the congress.

Along these lines, Alfonso Vegara, president and founder of the Metropoli Foundation, will deliver the opening conference entitled “Intelligent Territories”. Likewise, Joan Vila, director of Mirage Factory, will submit the paper “New Trends in Event Organisation” on Friday 6 July.

Within the framework on the congress, the APCE will submit a study on congress centre catering services, analysing quality controls and arrangements in Spain’s leading congress centres.
